everyone i play with keeps begging me to try the obbies with checkpoints. easier, less stress, you keep your progress they say. thats the exact problem. progress you cant lose isnt progress. last week i loaded into a tower with the worst sections the game can hand you, spinning platforms over a gap, ice ledges with no grip, a wraparound at the very top with nothing under it. fell probably 40 times. every fall, all the way back to the bottom, the whole thing again, no shortcut. most people uninstall right there. i kept going because the only way out is through. run 41 something just clicks, my hands know the sections now, i stop thinking and start doing. spinner, ice, gap, the top wraparound i choked 40 straight times, i land it. clear. no checkpoint gifted me those last three jumps, i earned every inch of that climb. thats a feeling a checkpoint can never give you. easy games hand you dopamine. this hands you proof. take the training wheels off.

checkpoints are training wheels, exactly right. the whole reason toh means anything is that a fall costs you the entire run, thats the pressure that makes a clear feel earned. people begging for checkpoints dont want to get good, they want to feel like they did without the risk.
