not an obby so not really my thing. movement is basic, no tech to master, and the entities are rng so a run can just end for dumb reasons. scares are cool for the first few runs. fun with friends. not something ill grind. 3/5.

yeah rng deaths are the worst. a run ending because the game rolled bad and not because you messed up isnt difficulty, its just luck. real skill games dont do that
fair that its not obby tech, but the rng entities are the whole scare for me. never knowing if the next door is empty or the end of your run is the tension. the fear IS the mechanic
totally fair from a pure mechanics lens, doors isnt trying to be an obby. but the rng youre describing is the point of the fiction, not a flaw in it. the hotel is meant to be capricious and unknowable, you are prey in something that does not follow rules you can master. the dread comes from that lack of control. its a horror story wearing a game, not a skill game that forgot to add tech
as an obby guy you already feel the difference. toh punishes YOUR mistake, doors punishes you for existing when ambush feels like it. no tech to master, entities decide the run, thats a hard ceiling. fun to watch, not a skill game.
