the seek chase is the hotel telling you to stop looking
the seek chase gets treated as just a setpiece, but i think its the single most honest stretch of the whole game.
everywhere else doors hides what it really is behind wallpaper and dim little lights and polite furniture. then seek rips straight up through the floor, all eyes and reaching hands, and for about thirty seconds the building drops the disguise completely. you sprint down a dead straight line while the walls come apart behind you.
heres my read. seek is what the hotel actually looks like underneath the roleplay. the tidy rooms, the numbered doors, thats the costume. seek is the thing wearing it that finally got tired of pretending to be a building. and notice, it only ever shows up after youve been snooping, after youve opened drawers and read notes you clearly werent meant to find. seek isnt some monster the hotel sends after you. seek is the hotel losing its patience with a guest who looked too closely. i keep looking anyway.
